Van Griffith, great-grandson of Griffith J. Griffith, and Councilmember Tom LaBonge unveil the sign honoring Griffith Park as Historic-Cultural Monument #942 at a ceremony on Thursday, March 12. The Councilman has posted these signs at the major entrances to the park so that everyone will know that Griffith Park is now a landmark.

The media and the crowd gathered in front of the Griffith statue at Los Feliz Bl. and Riverside Dr. for the ceremony. Most of the people in attendance represented groups who had worked hard to secure the landmark designation for the park.

Daniel Paul, Architectural Historian at ICF Jones & Stokes the firm hired by the Griffith J. Griffith Charitable Trust to prepare the 350-page Historic-Cultural Monument application, addressed the enthusiastic crowd. Seated behind him is Cultural Heritage Commissioner Rouella Louie.
